Welcome letter from the inaugural Editor-in-Chief

During the launch of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: Global, I would like to extend a warm welcome to readers and authors.

Back in January, Mary Beth Fasano, MD, MSPH, FAAAAI, AAAAI Immediate Past President, shared that the AAAAI would be expanding its journal portfolio to include a new Gold Open Access journal. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the submission portal would be up and running by September 1st, but this successful launch would not be possible without the continued support of the AAAAI.

I express my gratitude to the AAAAI for entrusting me to serve as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of this important new journal, and my thanks to the A/I community for welcoming JACI: Global with open arms.

JACI: Global joins the family of AAAAI journals, and I am proud that we have a place amongst two stellar publications, JACI and JACI: In Practice, that are critically important to our research and practice communities. While these two journals are focused primarily on clinical and human translational research, and thus must be very selective as to which papers are accepted for publication, I envision JACI: Global providing a forum for papers that are beyond the scope of JACI and JACI: In Practice. This includes papers using basic science approaches, translational studies in early or developmental stages of research, research with an international focus on A/I, and more.

Ultimately, the goal is for JACI, JACI: In Practice, and JACI: Global to collaborate to ensure that there is a place for all research and studies conducted by A/I investigators.

In addition to expanding the AAAAI journal portfolio, the impetus for launching JACI: Global stems from a growing need within the scientific community for Gold Open Access. JACI: Global will provide a forum for authors funded by agencies requiring open access as a condition of their funding a place to publish their research. I believe that this commitment to authors will place JACI: Global at the center of important, evolving research and have a far-reaching impact internationally.

JACI: Global will be structured very much the same as JACI and JACI: In Practice, the main difference, of course, being that it is Gold Open Access. I encourage you to review the Guidelines for Authors for specifics on submitting, as well as our FAQ page.

I look forward to working with all of you and to a successful first year. And as Editor-in-Chief, I welcome your suggestions, discussions and thoughts.

David B. Peden, MD, MS, FAAAAI
